The Author’s Story
Marissa Canchola has two Associates degrees, one in English Literature and the other in Anthropology, and will soon be receiving a Bachelors Degree in English Literature from the California State University of Northridge.
Marissa has gone through many career paths that she has aimed to achieve since her first semester in college. At first she strove to be a Choir Teacher in High School, but music theory is far harder than anything she tried before so she quickly decided to fall back to her other favorite subject of English. Deciding that being a High School English Teacher would be a safe career path, she changed her major and continued working hard while following her love of Anthropology on the side.
When it came time to move from Community to University she again diverged from her plan and applied to two different schools for two different programs. One for English Literature and the other path leading to Archaeology. Being accepted into both programs did not help in her decision but she followed her brain and went with English. Realizing not long after being at CSUN that she was not in the teacher program she decided to ride it out and see where she went.
The best experience from her education in English Literature was that she finally found what she wanted to do. Marissa plans to one day become a professor of English Literature and teach classes on Pop Culture, Comics, and more.
Though the path to this realization was filled with questions and mistakes, she truly feels she made the right decisions to get to where she was always meant to.
Some fun facts about the Author
Her favorite types of literature are fantasy, mystery and coming of age novels. The works she often finds herself re-reading are: Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, The Awakening by Kelly Armstrong and the rest of this series, along with her well loved edition of Hamlet by Shakespeare.
Marissa really enjoys swimming, yoga and singing. She has performed in several musicals, and has been in choirs for 8 years. Her favorite hobby is doing kids birthday parties as Disney Princesses.
